The colors of the french flag "combine" the different symbols, invented after the fact:
- Blue is the color of Saint Martin, a rich Gallo-Roman tore his blue coat and his sword to give half of it to a poor beggar who was himself in the snow. It is the symbol of care, the obligation that rich countries should help the poor.

Most french flags, at least at the beginning of their use, have a very dark blue hue, sometimes called blue flag (blue flag). Petit Larousse Illustre was nothing blue flag, but it has:
Royal blue: blue supported (the french flag) (blue: strong blue, french blue flag).
Therefore, it seems that using a dark blue for the french flag has been widely accepted because it is highligted examplify to the "royal blue" shade.
