england's flag colors represent

What does the USA flag colors represent?
What do the colors signify?

It's almost an obsessive question
What do the colors mean?
Nothing, they're merely the colors
That on the British Union Jack, are seen
According to my old stand-by, the colors of the flag, the blue was darkened in 1869 when the Admiralty Standard Shipping to 1:2 Union Flag, with a close St Patrick's saltire. No explanation is given for the dark blue, but I assume that the Admiralty chose the darkest possible shade of blue for the color would not fade before the flag needed replacing.

If you look Perrin British Flags you will see that the original 1606/1707 flag had a pale blue while the 1801 flag has a dark blue field. One reason is probably that the flag is defined as having a "blue" and in recent British heraldic tradition this has been interpreted as a means of dark blue. In a world governed Pantone us distinguish between different shades of color, but there are hundreds of years, we have not. I think there is something in the idea of David a darker blue was chosen so that the flag should be replaced for fading less often.
Graham Bartram, 23 March 1998

The proportions of the flag are that the red cross has a width of 1/5 of the height of the flag
The red cross on white background is the symbol of St. George, the patron saint of England.

The Union Flag, the flag of the United Kingdom of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, is a mixture of the flags of England, Scotland and Ireland. Blue is of the form x white cross of Saint Andrew on a blue background of Scotland.
