When Alaska and Hawaii are planned for the State in the 1950s, more than 1,500 designs were spontaneously submitted to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Although some of them were 49-star versions, the vast majority were 50-star proposals. At least three and probably more, of these drawings are identical to the current design of the 50-star flag. [9] At the time the credit was given by the management department of the United States Army Institute of Heraldry of the design.
